When Standard Tubing Is Not Enough: Custom Step-Down Tubes by SHOMEA

A customer recently contacted SHOMEA with a specific requirement for a precision stainless steel tube.

They needed a tube with two different diameters at each end. One section needed to be larger for connection and assembly, while the other needed to be smaller to fit into a compact component.

The customer had already finalized the overall device design, but there was one problem: standard stainless steel tubing could not meet the required dimensions.

Why Use a Step-Down Tube?

A step-down tube, also called a reducing tube or stepped tube, has different diameters along its length.

This design can provide a smooth transition between components with different connection sizes while helping save space in compact devices.

Compared with using two separate tubes and an additional connector, a customized step-down tube can sometimes simplify the structure and reduce the number of components.

For applications with strict space and dimensional requirements, this can be especially useful.
